Life of an Athlete's John Underwood
Coming to Eau Claire County
On September 12th-14th, John Underwood, founder of the American Athletic Institute, will be in Eau Claire County. John is a former NCAA All-American and coach of more than two dozen Olympians including World and Olympic Champions. John has studied the impact of nutrition as well as alcohol and marijuana use on sports performance for more than a decade and has been an advocate for drug-free sports at all levels.
Life of an Athlete© is a program about excellence and healthy lifestyles in youth sports that
- focuses on top performance
- helps athletes be injury-free
- increases community, school, and team pride
Over 40 school and community coaches, athletic directors, and administrators from across Eau Claire County attended a Life of an Athlete presentation this past spring, and felt that Life of an Athlete is a program that will give us the information and tools needed to raise the level of performance among student athletes.

The American Athletic Institute began an initiative in the year 2000 to impact the use lifestyle of athletes at all levels of sport. The Life of an Athlete© program has been utilized in 39 states and by thousands of school districts. The program has been presented at the Office of Juvenile Justice National Leadership Conference for the past eight years. This promising prevention/intervention program focuses on all stakeholders in a community to help create a vigilant approach to insure programs of excellence and reduce drug use by athletes.
